3 Steps to Find Your Purpose in Life

You are a woman, and you have a purpose in this planet. You may have a different role than your male counterpart but you fill something in our world. It is that which gives meaning to your being.

Your purpose in life is what gives meaning to living.  But, a lot of people have difficulty nailing what their purpose in life is.  In order to find your purpose in life, you have to be specific.  Your life purpose is that something which gives you the feeling that you are doing something larger than yourself, it feels beyond the ordinary. It is doing something that really matters.

In his wonderful book, “The Adventures of Johnny Bunko”, Daniel H. Pink has this to say about our purposes in life…“in some ways this is what it means to be alive”.  So, here are some relatively simple ways you can employ to find your purpose in life.

First…Block Out the Noise

One of the main obstacles in your quest to find your purpose in life is those external noises and prattle that goes on around you. They distract you and prevent you from hearing that little voice in your heart.  This is not to say that you can’t learn anything from the opinion of others, on the contrary, there are a lot of things you can gain from their wisdom and sharing.

However, their insights should only serve as your guide, because when it comes to your purpose in life, nobody can tell you what it is.  The only person you need to listen to is you.  The problem with most of us is that we let the views of the world dictate who we should be and what we should do.  In the process, those views block out the voices in our hearts.

So, instead of the world blocking you out from your true self, you must develop the skill to block out the world; this will help you find your purpose in life.

Then…Listen to Your Inner Voice

Now, that you’ve blocked out the noise, the next thing you should do is to start developing self-awareness by listening to yourself. Getting inside one’s self and tuning in with one’s emotions is a woman’s strong point. An effective method to achieve it is by writing your thoughts.  Start journaling now. Women are also more detail oriented, therefore, activities like journaling will be very manageable.

Look back on the lives of history’s greats and you will discover that most of them cultivated the habit of writing their thoughts and reflecting on them.

When you write down your ideas and musings, you clarify and organize them; but, most importantly you capture them.  Most ideas just vanish when they are just running around your head, and you can’t think clearly with them bouncing around your brain.  So, you have to seize those thoughts and reflect on them. Begin asking and answering questions which are essential to you, and write them all down.

This exercise gives you focus and forces you to listen to your heart, because you can’t find the answers anywhere else.  Slowly, the answers to all your questions will become clearer and more concrete, and they will help you find your purpose in life.

Finally….Seek The Wisdom of Others

So, you’re now listening to that tiny voice within you, but you can’t just sit and wait for your purpose to land on your lap. You have to deepen your understanding of your desires. You can do it by seeking out the wisdom of others, and consulting relevant materials and references.  You have to do a lot of reading and research.  You can be sure that others before you have already done or are doing whatever it is you want to do.  So, you have to seek out more knowledge, so that you can have the discernment which will guide you to find your purpose in life.
